Laos, Gibbon Prep, Chicken Larb

WE WILL NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE INTERNET WHILST DOING THE GIBBON EXPERIENCE. THE NEXT BLOG WILL BE 5TH OCTOBER.

We were up at 4am to catch a taxi to the Thailand-Laos border. It was an hour and a half to the exit point of Thailand. A quick stamp of the passport and we were through. Next we got put on a bus and transported to Laos immigration where we had forms to fill in. They printed and stuck our visa into our passport and we were allowed through. There were kitties and pooches at the border running around and playing creating a light atmosphere which was nice given how tired we were.

We met a great bunch of people whom were continuing to the slow boat. Shame we weren’t going with them. Instead we got dropped at our guesthouse and checked in. Then we went to the gibbon experience office and checked in there. We had to sign forms claiming all responsibility should we be bit by a snake and promise not to sue the company- how reassuring!

We spent the evening in a local rooftop bar and a restaurant where we ate chicken larb; a fish oil and salty dish with breaded chicken, onions, and spring onions. Huay Xai is very much a border port town with little to see and do. Behind it is miles of jungle until you reach central Laos.

After dinner we packed for the gibbons, had a shower and got ready for bed.
